On Monday, July 20, the Blount Memorial Auxiliary made a donation of more than $145,000 to support Blount Memorial Hospital, its patients and special projects. On hand to accept the donation was Blount Memorial board of directors president Robert Redwine.
The Blount Memorial Auxiliary is comprised of approximately 280 active volunteers who, in the last year, donated more than 63,000 combined hours to Blount Memorial Hospital. In addition to its time, the organization performs other tasks such as providing extra services to patients, promoting community relations and providing funds. Every cent raised by the Auxiliary through vending machine sales, fundraisers and sales at the hospital gift shop, is donated back to the hospital or its entities.
“As far as I know, this is the largest donation we’ve ever given to the hospital,” said director of Volunteer Services Connie Slingluff. “The Auxiliary’s fundraising efforts have grown tremendously since I started in Volunteer Services in 1991. The first year I was here, the Auxiliary gave $35,000 to the hospital,” she added.
At Monday’s meeting, the Auxiliary also elected its 2015-2016 board members. Becky Dodson takes over as Auxiliary president, while Ed Bagley will serve as vice president. Jody Rogers and Mamie Porter will serve as recording secretary and corresponding secretary respectively. Sue Deakin will continue to act as treasurer, and Gisela Hill will serve as assistant treasurer.
Since 1947, the Blount Memorial Auxiliary has helped enhance, expand and extend the hospital's reach into our community by helping patients and visitors and supporting Blount Memorial Hospital through service, fundraising and community relations. Since its inception, the organization has accumulated well over 1 million volunteer hours, in addition to their monetary contributions, which enable the hospital to maintain, improve and advance medical care in Blount and surrounding counties in East Tennessee.
