Blount Memorial Hospital’s security department recently was named a “Department of Distinction” by the International Association for Healthcare Safety and Security (IAHSS). Blount Memorial’s security team currently is the only hospital security department in Tennessee to hold this distinction.
Being named a “Department of Distinction” signifies that more than 70 percent of the hospital’s security officers have met the requirements to obtain either basic, advanced or supervisory certifications. Security director Mike Steele also recently completed the necessary requirements to become a Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA), which is an eligibility requirement for becoming a “Department of Distinction.”
“We are excited to be the only ‘Department of Distinction’ in the state,” Steele said. “Showing a familiarity with the topics provided by the Internal Association for Healthcare Security and Safety, ensures that our officers will consistently deliver a safer and more effective healthcare experience for our patients, employees and visitors.”
