Nominations Sought for 2015 SAPAT Awards

The Blount County Substance Abuse Prevention Action Team (SAPAT) is seeking nominations for its 2015 Substance Abuse Prevention Excellence Awards. These awards recognize four individuals from the community for their hard work to prevent substance abuse in our area.

  • The Student Prevention Leadership Award honors a current or past student who has been an effective leader in alcohol and/or drug prevention on his or her campus. This honoree should have demonstrated a commitment to work with faculty and staff to encourage prevention programming, creatively worked to address a variety of alcohol and drug issues on campus and in the community, and provided leadership to fellow students to positively shape the campus experience as it relates to alcohol and other drugs.
  • The Prevention Champion Award honors an individual who has served as a “champion” for moving forward alcohol- and drug-prevention efforts in our community. Examples of a champion would be someone who has created dynamic and solid partnerships that have led to exemplary programming and/or provided outstanding leadership for comprehensive alcohol- and drug-prevention efforts.
  • The Prevention Innovation Award recognizes an individual who has created or implemented a creative program, strategy or activity to enhance alcohol- and drug-prevention efforts in the community. This award recognizes those who have “thought outside the box” or “blazed a new trail.”
  • The Substance Abuse Prevention Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to a distinguished individual or group that has made a long-term contribution to the advancement of the goals and objectives of the Substance Abuse Prevention Action Team.

The Substance Abuse Prevention Action Team is designed to address the challenge of reducing underage drinking, youth tobacco use, prescription medication misuse and illicit drug abuse in Blount County by partnering with local agencies, including law enforcement and school systems, to provide educational opportunities, advocate policy enforcement and promote prevention activities.
