More than 115 people were honored for their combined 300,000-plus hours of service to Blount Memorial Hospital on Monday, Nov. 16 at the Blount Memorial Auxiliary’s annual awards luncheon at the Airport Hilton.
Awards were presented to volunteers who have contributed a minimum of 50 hours of service to the hospital. The highest honor of the day went to Anna Mae Beaty who has contributed more than 15,500 tireless hours of her time. Monday’s award recipients were met with smiles and handshakes from Blount Memorial Hospital CEO Don Heinemann and hospital board president Robert Redwine.
The Blount Memorial Auxiliary is comprised of approximately 280 active volunteers who, in the last year, donated more than 63,000 combined hours to Blount Memorial Hospital. The volunteers are a crucial part of the Blount Memorial team. In addition to their time, the organization performs such tasks as providing extra services to patients, promoting community relations and even providing funds. Every cent raised by the Auxiliary through vending machine sales, fundraisers and sales at the hospital gift shop, is donated back to the hospital or its entities. This year, the Auxiliary donated more than $145,000 to support Blount Memorial Hospital, its patients and special projects – the largest donation the group has made to date.
Since it began in 1947, the Blount Memorial Auxiliary has helped enhance, expand and extend the hospital's reach into our community by helping patients and visitors and supporting Blount Memorial Hospital through service, fundraising and community relations. Since its inception, the organization has accumulated well over 1 million volunteer hours, in addition to their monetary contributions, which enable the hospital to maintain, improve and advance medical care in Blount and surrounding counties in East Tennessee.
