If you suffer from mild to moderate knee, hip and shoulder pain, relief is available without surgery or medication through a state-of-the-art injection therapy procedure called platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) that can speed healing and delay or even eliminate the need for joint replacement surgery.
Blount Memorial Hospital will host a free event called “Could PRP Work for Me?” two times next month to help members of the community learn more about the potential benefits of PRP therapy.
“Could PRP Work for Me?” takes place Thursday, Dec. 5 from 6-7 p.m. or Friday, Dec. 6 from 7:30-9 a.m. at East Tennessee Medical Group, located at 266 Joule St. in Alcoa. Each session will include information on how PRP works, plus opportunities for questions with Blount Memorial’s board-certified, FDA-compliant physicians.
Blount Memorial now is offering PRP therapy for a discounted self-pay price of $475. Insurance and Medicare currently do not cover PRP therapy. Typically, at least two injections are required to experience pain relief and some patients may require a series of injections over time.
