As part of ongoing measures to protect members of our community from the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19), Blount Memorial Hospital is temporarily closing its Wellness Center at Springbrook in Alcoa and Wellness Center at Cherokee in Maryville locations.
Both centers will suspend operation indefinitely at the end of their respective business hours on Saturday, March 21. Blount Memorial will reevaluate the status of Wellness Centers operations on a weekly basis. Blount Memorial Total Rehabilitation at Cherokee is not affected by this closure.
“This is not a decision we made lightly,” said public relations manager Josh West. “We know how important health and fitness are to our Wellness Centers’ members and the community at large. Earlier this week, we began limiting sizes of group exercise classes to fewer than 10 people in accordance with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommendations. However, we now feel it is in the best interest of our members and employees to close completely. This is a temporary measure, and we will continue to follow CDC guidelines for determining when it will be safe to make these facilities available again,” West said.
Members of both centers will be contacted by leadership regarding their membership accounts.
